With the Government pushing for the building industry to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions caused by development, the pressure to become more environmentally aware is ever increasing. Timber frame has the lowest CO2 cost of any commercially available building material. For every cubic meter of wood used, instead of other materials, 0.8 tonnes of CO2 is saved from the atmosphere.
All of the timber used by Kestrel Timber Frame is from sustainable sources, coming from managed coniferous forests of Scandinavia and North America, where more trees are planted than are cut down. Whilst there is little difference in material costs alone when comparing traditional and timber frame builds, there are many other factors that need to be taken in to account when doing a cost comparison.
The finished building is a highly insulated, accurately manufactured structure, resulting in savings in energy consumption over the lifetime of the build.

A U value is the measurement of the rate at which heat will flow across a material. The lower the U value, the more effective an insulating material it is. Current Building Regulations stipulate a minimum U value of 0.3. Here at Kestrel Timber Frame we are achieving U values of 0.1 or whatever the client requirement.
With a timber frame structure a typical time saving of around 30% for a 2-storey house can be achieved, significantly lowering the risk of poor weather conditions affecting construction time. The fast erection time is due to a substantial amount of construction taking place offsite in our purpose built factory. This then allows follow on trades to access site much quicker resulting in a fast build phase.
Timber frame systems can be designed and adapted for use on all types of structures and transported for erection on restricted sites. Modular components are easy to transport whilst our prefabricated panels offer strict quality control and fewer post erection quality problems. Timber frame structures can accommodate a wide range of external finishes and claddings, easy installation of services and are easy to customise and extend.
